Special Delivery!
The stork has delivered 15 bundles of bouncing Boxer joy to Atlanta Boxer Rescue. In March, we rescued Blossom from a local animal control facility. Just TWO days later, she gave birth to a litter of eight baby boxers. Two days after that, Sophie and Brutus came to ABR along with their seven puppies. These are some of the cutest Boxer pups you’re ever going to see, and they will soon be available for adoption.
Of course, growing puppies eat lots and lots of kibble and need special vet care to get them ready to face the world. To help offset vet costs and the price of puppy food, ABR is holding a name-that-puppy contest. For a mere five dollar donation, you can have a chance to name one of these little guys. In return, you'll get the satisfaction of knowing you have helped to keep their bodies healthy and their bellies full!

Save the Date
The second-annual BoxerStock music and entertainment festival will take place September 19, from noon until 10pm. Our event this year will be held at Dogma Dogcare in Smyrna. This all-day event for families and all four-legged friends will feature live music, food, and fun. Just $10 gets you a pass to all the fun for the entire day.
Our great friends at Dogma will be offering free doggie daycare for pups that poop out, just be sure to bring your pup’s shot records. And while you listen to the groovy live music, you can score a fantastic find at the silent auction or woof down some tasty food (on sale all day). Just like last year, BoxerStock promises to be a tail-wagging good time.
Nysa's Story
Every rescued dog has a story. Sometimes the volunteers are lucky enough to learn the dog’s actual story. An owner surrendering a dog might tell us, “After I lost my job there was barely enough money to take care of the kids” as they ask us to take their beloved family friend and find it a new home where it can be provided for. Or they might say, “When the baby started having breathing trouble the pediatrician said all of the animals had to go.”
Often times when a Boxer comes to ABR, there is no back-story that comes with it. The volunteers can only guess what the dog’s life was like before. A skinny dog with worn down pads has likely been stray for a while. A robust, healthy dog that is great with a ball might have gotten lost before Animal Control found her wandering on the roadside. Why no one came to claim her remains a mystery.
Nysa came to us with no information. Veterinarians and volunteers could only guess what had happened in this beautiful fawn boxer’s life. Her body was a mess. Her neck and legs, covered in bite marks. It took a team three hours to sew up all 12 of her wounds. Had Nysa been someone’s family pet? Her body, other than the injuries was in good condition. Perhaps she had been stolen at some point and used as a “bait dog” in a dogfight. It looked as if Nysa had given birth to at least one litter of puppies, but she is not underweight.
If only she could tell us her story. We do know for certain that Nysa suffered at least one serious attack in her recent past. Her foster mom tells us how incredibly sweet Nysa is. How she looks up at you with those gorgeous brown eyes and wants to be loved on and snuggled with. On the limited walks Nysa’s injuries have allowed her to take, she has been calm and even friendly with other dogs. Upon meeting another boxer, Nysa wanted to play so badly. Until she is completely healed, playing will have to wait.
Nysa cannot tell us her story, but she sure can teach us a life lesson. Here is a dog that has every reason not to trust other dogs and possibly even people. But instead of being defensive and aggressive, she is loving and sweet. One look into her beautiful face with those trusting eyes and you will see that Nysa is just wanting what so many of us are looking for in life: Someone to care for who will care for her, to love and be loved by and someone to comfort and be comforted by. Someone that Nysa can call her own. Before Nysa can find her forever home, she must be completely healed.
The name “Nysa” means “a new beginning” in Greek. That is just what ABR wants to give this sweet girl. The cost of vetting a boxer with this degree of injuries is quite high. Please consider donating to help cover the cost of Nysa’s care. Help ABR give this deserving boxer a new beginning.
